Outrage at Iran and Russian candor
While we were sleeping, the captains of the West condemned Iran for campaigning for the destruction of Israel, and Shimon Peres demanded that Iran be expelled from the United Nations. The British called Iran's proclamation "deeply disturbing and sickening," and the French condemned the remarks "with the utmost firmness," which must have the flower and chivalry of Tehran quaking in its boots. Peres said it most clearly:
The Russians, as is often the case, were the most candid:
I couldn't have put it better myself.
"Since the United Nations was established in 1945, there has never been a head of state that is a U.N. member state that publicly called for the elimination of another U.N. member state," Shimon Peres told Israel Radio.

Lavrov on Wednesday brushed off Israel's calls for Security Council action, saying the matter is "too serious to be guided by politics."

I had a different take on Lavrov - I thought he was guardely protecting Iran...

Cardinalpark - I agree. I was just snarking on his back-handed (and unintended) slam of the Security Council.
