The Dukakis moment

Why did this picture...

That's the first thought I had when I saw Bush in the dopey buggy. Why do they do this ... it makes them look so stupid.

No it doesn't

I don't think it's that bad.

It's definitely not as bad as this

Nah, GWB doesn't have a unibrow.

I suppose the main difference is that in 1988, Dukakis gathered 45.6 percent of the vote. Today, Bush is hovering at just over 30 percent.

This should pretty well convince the skeptical how far left Bush is. Of course the left wing Republicans will never admit to being left wingers!

How dare you imply that the lefty I voted for in 04 is a liberal! Just because he acts like a liberal, governs like a liberal and lies like a liberal does not mean he is a liberal. Ask Him! Or is that one of the millions of jobs Americans wont do?

The big difference is that GWB actually feels comfortable in this rig and Mike D was STAGING a photo in a TANK - something he was intensely uncomfortable in. GWB is a great and courageous man and the Duke is an empty suit.

There's another difference, in direct contradiction to Indispensible Destiny's observation. Bush was elected. Twice. I believe the reason that Dukakis moment has remained in the popular imagination is because it is regarded as a key downturn in his chances of being elected. But Bush isn't running anymore.

"But Bush isn't running anymore. "

These days he's riding shotgun in ATVs. (Sorry couldn't resist.)
