Political judo

The Democrats pit the best interests of Republicans against the best interests of the country. And do the right thing, to boot.

Sorry about the light blogging, and thanks to the 'Villain for helping out. I've been very busy the last couple of days. As it is, I'm blogging from the passenger seat of a car hurtling down Interstate 91 south of Hartford. My colleague has already declared me "not that fun to road trip with."

MORE: Proof of the foregoing here.

I can most definitely second that motion, at least until your laptop battery goes dry.

I can hardly see how this is bad news for the GOP. We on the Right cannot allow ourselves to fall to the same moral decadence as the Democrats have fallen too: We must not hope for the Democrats to inflict harm on the nation merely because it highlights the Democrat's complete lack of sanity.

There has been hardly a peep out of the GOP on this matter.

You should be ashamed of yourself for suggesting such a thing - it smacks of slander.

Great news. Hastings is a nightmare. And here's hoping that Jefferson down in LA gets the boot in his runoff. I'm not holding my breath, but a scandal-free Democratic Party would be lovely. Shame the Republicans didn't choose to tame their own beasts, eh?

Anyway, here's a joke I read. I thought you'd find it amusing:

A woman in a hot air balloon realized she was lost. She lowered her altitude and spotted a man in a boat below. She shouted to him, "Excuse me. Can you help me? I promised a friend I would meet him an hour ago, but I don't know where I am."

The man consulted his portable GPS and replied, "You're in a hot air balloon, approximately 30 feet above a ground elevation of 2346 feet above sea level. You are at 11 degrees, 14.97 minutes North latitude, and 100 degrees, 49.09 minutes West longitude.

She rolled her eyes and said, "You must be a Democrat."

"I am," replied the man. "How did you know?"

"Well," answered the balloonist, "everything you told me is technically correct. But, I have no idea what to do with your information. And I am still lost. Frankly, you have not been much help to me."

The man smiled and responded, "You must be a Republican."

"I am!" replied the balloonist. "How did you know?"

"Well...," said the man, "You do not know where you are, or where you are going. You have risen to where you are due to a large quantity of hot air. You made a promise that you have no idea how to keep, and now you expect me to solve your problem. You are in exactly the same position you were in before we met. But, somehow, now it's all my fault.

Anon,

I did not suggest that Republicans were hoping for Hastings, whether secretly or overtly. I do think, though, that Hastings elevation to chairman of the intelligence committee would have hurt the Democrats in 08. I think you are right -- most Republicans would rather that the Dems do the right thing for national security than shoot themselves in the foot while hurting the country.

That's a generic joke. You can easily switch the party names and make virtually no difference. I actually heard it years ago, but referring to military officers and NCOs.

I heard the same joke where the person on the ground was an academic and the person in the balloon is a consultant. I guess that's what happens when you work in the consulting industry...

Later on, I heard it from a market researcher where the person on the ground is a market researcher and the person in the balloon is a marketer.

Generic, indeed. But funny.

Allow yourselves to fall? Hasn't it already happened?
