Porsche tractors: There is no substitute

In certain circles, a Porsche tractor is about as cool as it gets:

The Porsche Tractor, last manufactured in 1963.

I would imagine that with Porsche's brand cachet it could slap a lawn mower on one of those, charge $20,000, and sell 10,000 a year to wealthy American suburbanites in the hunt for the next idiotic toy.

Many people are not aware of the genesis of the Lamborghini automobiles. Feruccio Lamborghini made a fortune manufacturing tractors in Italy, but was offended by his treatment when purchasing a custom Ferrari. He vowed to build supercars that would humble Enzo Ferrari.

So across the Alps you may find some Lamborghini tractors to compete with the vintage Porsches in your agricultural raceday activities!

When I lived in Italy, a friend and I went to Lake Trasimeno to hang out at the (topless) beach once in a while. Once, we decided to visit the estate of Mr. Lamborghini. He had a villa and winery, and on the premises was a little museum devoted to the brand, which began with tractors.

Great guy. Talked with and translated him for a while to a group of students. He seemed to have an affinity for being photographed with his arm around beautiful young American girls. You could buy the wine and the sunglasses and other stuff his kids had designed there. The tradition of artisanship still lives in Italy.
