Ice Watch: Save the whales!

The Arctic sea ice has returned with such a vengeance this fall -- it is barely below the seasonal average -- that a pod of narwhal whales has been trapped. They will die by nature or the hand of man. Inuit hunters have received permission to kill more than their annual quota, since the trapped whales will in any case suffocate as the ice closes in. The whales, suffice it to say, wish the ice had not come back so fast.

Silver lining: The polar bears are fixing to take over the habitat.

Prepare yourself for pictures of the whales starving and being crushed...all, of course, due to global warming.

Can we have a world referendum to stop talking about this foolishness...please!!!

Actually, we are in the midst of a U.S. referendum on greenhouse gas regulation and global warming. The Environmental Protection Agency has announced the start of it plans to regulate greenhouse gas emissions using the Clean Air Act. But we only have until Friday to send comments to EPA and tell them how bad of an idea this plan is.

For some background, including how Obama's head climate change guy said that once Obama takes office, he's going to go ahead with EPA's regulations, here’s a backgrounder: http://www.americanenergyalliance.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=128&Itemid=52

An easy way to send comments to EPA is to use this website: http://www.americanenergyalliance.org/stoptheepa

EPA's website on the subject is here: http://www.epa.gov/climatechange/anpr.html Anyone can submit comment by writing to a-and-r-Docket@epa.gov

A longer backgrounder is here: http://www.instituteforenergyresearch.org/2008/07/11/epa-staffs-attempt-to-regulate-greenhouse-gases-under-the-clean-air-act/

Thanks, Daniel...I sent them the message.

Aww, poor whales. Nature is a cruel mistress.

The only people who like bears are those who shoot them and those who DON'T live near any of them.

As for whales, I tend to stay out of the Arctic Ocean, and Arctic whales tend to stay off land, so all is good with whales.

Global Warming causes whales to freeze to death. Liberal cognitive dissonance at work. Good thing scientists are ready to clone wooly mammoths.

Again, my offer: I'll bet money that there will be a record low ice level in the next five years, or I'll bet there will be no record high in the next five years.

The ice trend is going down, and that verifies global warming. Month to month variations aren't smart things to focus on. To the extent any particular month exemplifies the trend - like a new record - that's a reasonable news hook, but the real story is the underlying trend.

You didn't get the memo. Liberals have long recognized the language problem there. Now, we are only supposed to talk about Global Climate Change.

Randian - you do realize Frank Lutz wrote that memo, right?

What about being a Republican consultant and GM vice-chairman prevents him from being a liberal? The memo was a huge mistake, because it surely hasn't escaped your notice that people like Al Gore have seized on it in order to sidestep the obvious problems with blaming freezes on "global warming". It allows them to obscure truth through mere changes in rhetoric, rather like in 1984.
