Is Mos Def a babbling idiot?

I'm not a huge fan of Bill Maher's HBO show, but this segment is kind of entertaining and bizarre (though NSFW):

There is a certain Bambi vs. Godzilla quality to Mos Def unintentionally entering into a debate with Christopher Hitchens on TV.

Mos Def seems to get tripped up in a series of conflicting statements and questions. Hitch seems most troubled by the intellectual slovenliness of "Mr. Def." Salman Rushdie tries to be helpful, to no avail. Maher doesn't really know what to do, especially at the end when he tries to wrap up.

What a panel: Salman Rushdie, Christopher Hitchens, Bill Maher and Mos Def. It's an interesting way to balance a lineup.

You're a better man than I, 81. Def rendered the panel discussion unwatchable. I threw in the towel early.

I'd like to see Tom Morello from Rage Against the Machine on one of these shows. I don't agree with him on anything, but at least he's politically conscious. Serj from System of a Down or the frontman for Muse would also be interesting.

Mos Def is not without talent. He starred with Alan Rickman in "Something the Lord Made", an HBO movie about the first open heart surgeries in 2004. I thought his and Rickman's were two of the better acting performances of the last few years.

But actors ought to stick to acting; rappers to rap.

Do you think Mos Def is bad? Watch Maher's show when Cornell West is on.

Hitchens vs West, now that would be an intellectual cage match worth Pay per View.
