But what about the badminton team?
The Obama administration is finally dropping the hammer on the Islamic Republic, disinviting its diplomats from the 4th of July White House cookout. And if that fearsome sanction does not move the mullahs back to the straight and narrow, we can always withdraw the badminton team. Did that bit of "ping-pong" diplomacy work the way I predicted, or President Obama hoped?

That must have been why Jimmy CArter was seen lurking around the White House last month. It was time to bring out the heavy artillery.

A close reading of his remarks seems to indicate that, rather than uninviting the Iranians, they did not RSVP, and the deadline will not be extended. Not exactly the same as a disinvitation.

There has been talk of the US men's soccer team playing a friendly in Iran in the fall. It's barely more than speculation at this stage, but it could still come to be. Forget about the badminton cr--er, stuff. If the soccer match were scratched because of political developments, that would actually be something a little serious.
