The value of the filibuster 


Those among you, left or right, who think that the filibuster is an anti-democratic anachronism that should be abolished ought to consider the enormous economic damage done by unchecked Congressional majorities.

Combine this with the mini-skirt theory and I think we can pretty well call it a day on stock market theory.

According to google finance, this chart purports to compare Dec-76 to 78 against all other time in the existence of the S&P; the figures do not go back far enough for the previous majorities. Setting aside the obvious small numbers problems with these vastly differently sized datasets, the distribution is almost certainly asymmetric with cumulative productivity gains over time biasing near term, as in the chart. Oh well, I suppose everyone needs to get their jollies with misleading and statistically/ethically bankrupt charts somewhere.
