Oh Thank Heavens!

For a moment, I was worried I was going to have to start caring.

Though Obama did say he was committed to talking to America's enemies... Seriously, the White House spin alone is worth the price of admission:
A senior Obama adviser says that, even though the West Wing has been roundly criticized by both adversaries and some allies for blasting Fox as an arm of the Republican Party and not a real news organization, administration insiders are pleased with how things stand.

The fuss has energized core Democrats who have wanted Obama and his advisers to get tough with Fox and other critics of the administration, the adviser says. And it has made the point that Fox is an outlier in the journalistic community, a notion that many liberals embrace…

Nothin' like preaching to the choir to boost the old self confidence. I'm sure the folks at FoxNews are licking their wounds and heaving a big sigh of relief.

The most pathetic thing is the group of people who still support this dipsh*t ... what an embarassment.

Oh, and yeah, I watch Fox. Watching tonight now Mr. Hope/Change has golfed 20 something times already (the total of GWB's Presidency) ... so much for working on 'creating jobs' or 'dealing with the situation in Afghanistan'.

Hello Obama .. we just set a record for losses in a month in the Afghan theatre. WTF?

I await the retracement of the market and the start of the sh*t hitting the fan. God help us reach mid-term elections without too much more damage occurs.

By Anonymous SouthernRoots, at Wed Oct 28, 09:34:00 PM:

He would rather talk to Iran, Al Queda, and the Taliban rather than talk to anyone on Fox.

Does Fox really say worse things about Obama tha these other groups?

Pathetic.

By Blogger MainStreet, at Wed Oct 28, 10:14:00 PM:

Obama should keep up the pressure. Roger Ailes(sp?)is crying all the way to the bank. At least FOX tries to be objective, but the Administration and Congress are so out in Left field that it is difficult to see them doing anything that is mainstream. All the tea parties ask is for the bills to be read and the people to be listened to. The Democrats, other than some moderates, don't even care.

By Anonymous Pasquin, at Wed Oct 28, 10:22:00 PM:

Kudos to SouthernRoots. I was wondering when someone would point out that the One who would sit down and talk with Iran would refuse to sit down and talk with Fox News.

We were at a political cocktail party the other night in support of Bob McDonnell and the guest of honor was Rudy Giuliani. He was saying that he attended a wedding recently and sat next to Rupert Murdoch...who basically was grinning ear to ear about the latest Obamadebacle with Fox.

He is making money and gaining viewers hand over fist and CNN is remaining in the ratings basement.

I guess he fears Obama about as much as the Taliban, The Scottish and the French.

Is there a Nobel Prize for Incompetence???

By Blogger Diogenes, at Thu Oct 29, 10:27:00 AM:

Fox News, particularly Glen Beck, should be required viewing for all journalism and government students, government bureaucrats and our political "leaders."

By Anonymous vicki pasadena ca, at Thu Oct 29, 12:24:00 PM:

Yes, Fox news should be required watching of what not to do to run a network with journalistic integrity. Quite honestly someone like Glenn Beck would have been drummed out of the newsroom in the heydey of the 70's reporting. This man has no real facts to back up his accusations, just wild meanderings. He is, to quite congressman Weiner a taco short of a combination plate. If any of you think that this is "real" journalism, you didn't live through the Nixon Administration.

'If you don't think like me, you're ignorant.'

I get so fucking tired of hearing this from liberals... but it seems to be inherent in the philosophy.

Vicki:

It must be quite cosy living up in the clouds getting only the news deemed worthy by the One.

Glen Beck is noisy and boisterous and I sometimes cringe at what he says. I guess this is the price I have to pay to see Beck show up the "Real Journalists" when he publishes real news while at the same time educating his viewers about economics, government and US history.

By Anonymous vicki pasadena ca, at Thu Oct 29, 03:25:00 PM:

Gosh Dawn, didn't know you could see in to my soul. Wow, should bottle that bull. I have been absent because I am freaking tired of hearing from the neocons blubber and bluster about our impending demise. Please. Control yourselves and grow up. My head is not in the clouds, my feet are firmly on the ground. You are a self-important ignorant jerk with delusions of grandeur. No profanity here, love to, though.

Davod, no real news, no education from Beck unless you are interested in learning about things slanted in his freaky direction. I remember the segment he did on the friezes in Rockefeller Plaza. Tried to scare the bejesus out of us with the "commie" pictures from the 30's. What did I say, Duh!. Commies were our friends in the 30's and 40's, one of our allies against Hitler and Mussolini. To demonize leftist artists from the 30's is to demonize virtually every artist from the WPA. Thank god for those people, gave us great art and great buildings. So what if they had communist leanings.

Beck is dangerous, a little (very little) knowledge in his hands is cause for fear and alarm amongst the "regular folks" like me.

Pasadena Vicki strikes again.

You are a self-important ignorant jerk with delusions of grandeur.
Sounds as if you took “How to Win Friends and Influence People” to heart.

Quite honestly someone like Glenn Beck would have been drummed out of the newsroom in the heydey of the 70's reporting. This man has no real facts to back up his accusations, just wild meanderings.
“No real facts:”
Such as Van Jones declaring himself a “communist”? He was quoted in a Bay Area rag.
Such as Mao being the one of the “favorite philosophers” of Anita Dunn? See the video. I detected no “irony” whatsoever in her tone.

You apparently watch Glenn Beck much more than I. if you don’t like him, don’t watch him.

Glenn Beck’s Arguing with Idiots has twenty five pages of citations. Why don’t you buy a copy and check them out? Thanks for turning me onto Glenn Beck. Before you started ranting about him, I had never watrched him. While I don’t agree with everything he says and does, I have no problem with his pointing out what he did about Van Jones and Anita Dunn.

No real facts, even when they come straight from the horses’s mouth? Interesting.

Commies were our friends in the 30's and 40's, one of our allies against Hitler and Mussolini.
From Pearl Harbor to shortly after the end of WW2, yes. In the 1930s? So much for liberals being oh so much better informed than brain-dead ignorant conservatives.
By the way, do you remember how Dalton Trumbo and Pete Seeger – and the Almanac Singers- were against the US fighting in WW2, until after Hitler invaded the USSR ? No longer pacifists. When Comrade Joe spoke, they listened.

Thank god for those people, gave us great art and great buildings.
Yes , they did. Howver, what is wrong with pointing out that they inserted propaganda, or their political beliefs, into their art? Is the discussion of certain facts verboten to you?

So what if they had communist leanings.
So what if they supported a movement that was responsible for killing an estimated 100 million? So what if their political stances turned on a dime, courtesy of Stalin’s policy changes, such as Dalton Trumbo’s stance on pacifism? So what if they supported a movement that resulted in governments that not even Pasadena Vicki would want to live under? See Black Book of Communism, Solzhenytsin etc. Get with it. Even Pete Seeger has seen the error of his ways.

I doubt you would be so forgiving of someone who had supported the Nazis. Glenn Beck said something similar in his discussion about Anita Dunn.

Beck is dangerous, a little (very little) knowledge in his hands is cause for fear and alarm amongst the "regular folks" like me.
Read his Arguing With Idiots, examine his twenty five pages of citations, and get back with us. If you want to convince people that Glenn Beck is an "evil-monger" you need to do more than spew undocumented vitriol at him.Facts and well-presented arguments convince me. Your postings over the last several months have been exceedingly unconvincing.

"Commies were our friends in the 30's and 40's"

Unfortunately they weren't as kindly disposed to the 65+ million people Joe Stalin put in their graves during the same period.

Vicki...just one example of something that Beck has said that is blatantly untrue...give us JUST ONE.

Can we run thru the same exercise with the staff of 60 minutes? The Washington Post? MSNBC? Air America? Heh,heh...perhaps the White House Press Corp????

I think that's why people like Anne Coulter and Glen Beck enrage leftists...because they are (a)factual (b) humorous and (c) popular.

By Blogger victoria, at Thu Oct 29, 07:58:00 PM:

Really boys, who cares. Witch hunting, that's what you people do best. Oh Boludu, don't leave out Lindbergh and Billy Mitchell. Not everyone thought it was a good idea. The "secret messages" and political beliefs espoused then are in no way relevant to anything that is going on today. Except for the fact that loonies like yourselves and Beck and Hannity want to look for commies under the beds again.

Spooky.

By Anonymous Anna, at Thu Oct 29, 08:00:00 PM:

I'm not Vicki but here's JUST ONE example that Beck has said that is blatantly untrue:

The Beck has repeatedly claimed that Obama has 32 "czars" on staff and more than any President of the United States has had before.

Wrong!

Firstly, 9 of the positions he's counting were confirmed by the Senate so they hardly qualify as "czars" (unless you too agree that the Deputy Interior Secretary should be counted as the Water Czar); another 8 in his fat fingered fuzzy math were not appointed by the POTUS (e.g., special rep for border patrol was appointed by DHS), and fifteen of the positions this czar crazy POTUS filled WERE created by previous adminsistrations!!

Lastly (lest you still be a believer in all things Beck), Bush had 35 czar positions in his adminstration. By my count, 35 is still more than 32. At least it is outside of Beckville.

JPMcT writes: Vicki...just one example of something that Beck has said that is blatantly untrue...give us JUST ONE.

Careful what you ask for JPMcT: PolitiFact has gathered several of Beck's "untruths" in one place along with the facts to knock down his blatherings.

More crow, sir?

Politifact, is that the outfit that actually fact checked a SNL
sketch for accuracy, when it dealt with Obama. Are you saying that there is nothing be concerned about

By Anonymous Anonymous, at Thu Oct 29, 11:04:00 PM:

So, Beck is only slightly more accurate than Rather. Does Beck even claim to be a news reporter?

By Anonymous Anonymous, at Thu Oct 29, 11:11:00 PM:

After reading the PolitiFact, I own Beck an apology, if that nit-picky bull shit is the best they can catch him on, then its scary how accurate he is.

Tress:

Unfortunately, PolitiFact does not come across as a very unbiased, objective evaluator. Here is one example.
Beck:
Van Jones "is an avowed, self-avowed radical revolutionary communist."
PolitiFact: barely true. “was, not is.”
In the article it quotes,
“ 'I was a rowdy nationalist on April 28th, and then the verdicts came down on April 29th,' he said. 'By August, I was a communist.' …..[early 1990s]
He took an objective look at the movement's effectiveness and decided that the changes he was seeking were actually getting farther away. Not only did the left need to be more unified, he decided, it might also benefit from a fundamental shift in tactics.

That does not indicate he was no longer a communist, but rather that he changed his tactics towards that goal. PolitiFact admits that Jones has not currently stated he is no longer he is a communist, but uses his talking about Green Jobs to indicate he is no longer one.
Granted he does talk about green jobs and about the private sector, but given what he said about tactics, I for one, am skeptical.
One step backwards, two steps forward.
Recall the Sandinsta blather about the “mixed economy,” which to the Sandinistas meant an economy 100% controlled, if not 100% owned, by the Sandinistas. Which by the way is a pretty good working definition of Fascism.

I also note that increased government control of everything is a theme of the current Administration.

By Anonymous vicki pasadena ca, at Thu Oct 29, 11:39:00 PM:

Non, anon, Beck thinks he is Lonesome Rhodes, the truth teller, the ONLY person you can believe in. Take a gander at "A face in the Crowd" Chilling and the similarities are stunning. Now, I understand that the movie was directed by a commie, Elia Kazan. But he is one of your "good" guys, he named names and helped to ruin innocent people's lives.

Am i getting this right then, eventhough Politifact is right it is discarded as valid because it fact checked SNL. Hmmmmm Sounds good to me. ?????

Why not? That seems to be your criteria for dismissing Beck.

I can see you are fixated on Glen Beck. Do you have a thing for fat fingers?

What are fat fingers anyway?

Huh?? Are you drunk? Next time try to connect some dots. To each other.

By Blogger Swami, at Fri Oct 30, 10:32:00 AM:

Peace between the White House and Fox...

I suppose the whole thing started with a conversation like this:

"Jesus H, Rahm, you see Saturday Night Live? They're on to me. I haven't been able to damn thing, and truth is, I don't know how. Iran, Economy, Immigration... I haven't actually done anything my whole life, where do you start?"

"Gotta get some cred, Barry. How about we invent a problem, puff something trivial up like it's really important, then we solve that.?"

By Blogger Swami, at Fri Oct 30, 10:51:00 AM:

" PolitiFact has gathered several of Beck's "untruths" in one place along with the facts to knock down his blatherings. "

Not quite. Politifact has really stretched and distorted to nitpick things down to low ratings like "barely true" when in fact, they are true. Here's an example: Beck makes a reference to a flue vaccine tied in the 70's to neurological disorders. Politifact whines that since vaccines since appear safe, Beck's statement lacks context. BUT! Beck's words were: "You don't know if..."

The implication, if this is not true, is "We DO Know, and..."

But the truth is, we don't know. We can consider it unlikely, very unlikely, but, we don't 'know'.

Winner: Beck
Loser: Politi"fact".

Many of Politifact's other claims are just as misleading, or false. A self-avowed communist is no longer a communist because he hasn't claimed his membership recently? Really? And I suppose John Gotti no longer has mob ties. That's what he said, after all.

The real howler has to be the Van Jones "truther" argument. Yes, Politifact admits he signed the petition, but, we can't be sure he actually knew what he was signing, so... it must be a half truth.

By Politifact standards, since the Politifact editors MAY have changed their minds since putting up their article, and MAY not have been aware of what they were writing, the whole thing is at best a Half Truth.

Heh. Now "they" are Marxists?!? Or worse, "seeming Maoists" (whatever that is...) But, but, but, I thought Obama was the face of Fascism?

Geez, if you're right, the Right better invest in a whole bunch of new signs and slogans because ideologically you can't be both. Which is it kids?

BTW, do you even know what Maoism is? is?

By Blogger JPMcT, at Fri Oct 30, 09:29:00 PM:

"BTW, do you even know what Maoism is? is? (sp)"

There are many definitions, but for the purpose of this forum, let them speak for themselves: Ron Bloom and Anita Dunn for starters.

To many Americans, Communism and Maoism is like porn....hard to define, but people tend to know it when they see it.

One Term.

By Blogger JPMcT, at Sat Oct 31, 09:41:00 AM:

@ Tress

Just to let you know that I did go to "Politifact" and check out their list of Beck inaccuracies.

The only problem is that I couldn't find any inaccuracies...just a lot of tortured logic and rationalization.

My challenge to Vicki (who has yet to respond) stands...find one REAL INACCURACY in Beck's statements.

Left wing spin sites don't count. Just the facts, ma'am.
