Facebook status of the day

Liberal health care blogger Ezra Klein just posted a Facebook status that exposes an actual sense of humor:

Unanswered question: Is the health-care reform bill the president signed consistent with Shari'a law?

Good question. If I knew that the health-care reform bill offended fundamentalist Muslims I might have been more accepting of it.

The only problem w such a question w regard to the HCR bill is that most likely nearly all legislation passed in the US at any level of government is inconsistent with Shari'a law. Because the mullahs didn't write it.

And if it is not consistent w Shari'a law, then some libs may conclude that Republican/rightwing/fundamentalists= Shari'a law Muzzie fundamentalists. Such as Al Gore's comment in the New Yorker back in 2004 equating "fundamentalist" Christians with "fundamentalist' Muslims. (Which is just one of the reasons to abhor Al Gore. Disclaimer: I have never been a churchgoer.)

Better question: Is the health-care "reform" bill the President signed consistent with U.S. law?

Or put more plainly, does the Congress and the President have authority under the Constitution to require under force of law that all citizens of the U.S. purchase a health insurance policy that meets a certain criteria. And if so, does that mean they can require us to carry life insurance at a certain level? Liability insurance? Pet insurance?

(Answer: No to all)
