Say it ain't so, Al (part deux)
Either a Portland masseuse is making stuff up about being groped 18 months ago, or former Vice President Al Gore has been taking a page from the book of his old boss, Bill Clinton. Police did not pursue an investigation.
Gore should be smarter than telephoning down for a massage at his hotel room late at night, which opens him up to this type of accusation. Being with a woman in a hotel room at night, one-on-one, is asking for this kind of trouble, no matter how professional and innocent your intentions might be. It would have been easy for Gore to ask someone from hotel security to be present during the massage, to act as a kind of chaperone.
The woman's credibility gets a bit murky for me when she states that "Gore had finished a beer and opened a bottle of Grand Marnier while she was in the room." Come on, even Gore is not silly enough to mix beer and Grand Marnier in his stomach.

You don't think he was going to "ply" the woman with the Grand Marnier?
Gore's an examplar to me of the limits of disinterested thinking. I am sufficiently biased against him, and the woman's details are so unique as to indicate either truth or a meta-novelistic imagination, that I am inclined to decide the credulity balance in her favor rather than his.

Anyone keeping track of the coverage on this in the captive media? I remember that it took months for them to mention Edwards but I have so little contact with them now that I have no idea if they are now protecting Fat Al.
BTW, my favorite part of this story (so far) is the descriptive term, "happy ending massage."

WaPo columnist Ezra Klein has been running JournoList since 2007 -- a members-only internet community of some 400 left-leaning journalists, including Paul Krugman, New Yorker Jeffrey Toobin, Times' Joe Klein, etc etc
JournoList came to light as select posts thereon by WaPo columnist David Weigel were leaked, which led to his resignation. Not because he was posting thereon, but because some of his posts exposed his supposed political bias. ... I still don't understand this ... the nuance of his bias is over my head ... like a lot of things.
I do find it troubling that our Leading Leftie Lights had their own private discussion group. Talk about GroupThink.

Because liberalism (or "progressivism," to use the newly-resurrected archaic term) is morally superior, only other liberals are worth listening to. Non-liberals are either unfortunately ignorant (but not morally wrong), or knowledgeable but still not liberal and therefore evil.
Net result is an echo chamber in which the participants feed off of one another to the exclusion of others. Consider it the 'Ivory Tower' phenomenon writ large, where theory and ideals replace reality and practical concerns are abandoned in the drive for perfection.
This echo chamber effect is the continuous enabler for modern liberalism; ironically, a form of self-imposed ignorance.

I've been intrigued with the failings of MSM over the last decade, and the very real adverse effects it's had.
I don't expect the JournoList story to have legs as I doubt MSM will report on itself. But there's a chance that like the Climategate e-mails, we may get a big JournoList data dump. If so, it'll be damning, I suspect. The few leaked e-mails in the public domain suggest that journalists were shaping -- and coordinating -- reporting to fit the narrative. If so, it'd confirm what many of us have suspected all along.
We're going to enter a new phase of this, I expect. There are big stories that have been nearly ignored by MSM -- double digit unemployment for one. Also, Obama has proven dissembling and conniving -- but he hasn't been called on it by MSM. Expect the Republicans to get all over this in the run-up to November 2010.
There are still folks in MSM with integrity. Developing ....
