Harry Reid: Proudly rich

Oh, how amusing it is when the worm turns. Sharron Angle, the challenger for Harry Reid's Senate seat, skewered Reid, the leader of the Party of Wealth Bashing's Senate contingent, for being, well, wealthy:

Reid said at one point Angle had gone too far in attacking his wealth, calling it a "low blow."

Payback is a bitch, ain't it Senator?

Harry Reid's reply to Angle, that he was a very successful lawyer in the private sector, which is how he made his money, may be the case. However, Harry Reid went to DC in 1983, when he was 43, and spent 12 years before that in government positions in Nevada, both elected and appointed. From Wikipedia, we find the following.

Henderson City Attorney 1964-1966
Nevada State Assembly 1969-1970
Lieutanant Governor of Nevada 1971-1975
Chairman of the Nevada Gaming Commission 1977-1981
US House of Representatives, 1983-87
US Senate 1987- present

I don’t see a lot of “private sector” work in there. From what I read, Angle didn’t nail Harry Reid to the cross with the above details. That she didn’t is to her detriment.

It would not surprise me that Harry Reid made his money from contacts acquired from his time on the Nevada Gaming Commission.

There is that old truism:

Republicans get rich and go into politics.

Democrats go into politics and get rich.
