Scott Sipprelle invades the homeland

The New Jersey 12th Congressional district, which includes Princeton, has long been a Democratic stronghold. Our Congressman, Rush Holt, is a college town academic liberal ("My Congressman IS a rocket scientist") and voted with Nancy Pelosi in the current session more than 99% of the time. His challenger, Republican Scott Sipprelle, has pulled within the margin of error in recent polls, though, and therefore stands a real chance of putting Princeton and environs in the Republican column for the first time in ages. As importantly, Sipprelle is taking the fight deep in to the Democratic stronghold in Trenton:

South Ward residents who answered their doors Sunday afternoon were treated to a sight that has become a rarity in the city: a Republican candidate stumping for nationwide office.

Scott Sipprelle, the venture capitalist running to unseat Democratic Rep. Rush Holt in New Jersey’s 12th District race Nov. 2, came to Trenton to rally supporters, knock on doors, and generally make his presence known.

“I heard people say they’ve never seen a Republican campaigning on their street,” Sipprelle said.

Republicans this election season are reaching out more than ever before to Trenton residents, many of them minority voters who traditionally vote Democratic. It could make the difference for candidates such as Sipprelle, who is in a tight race with Holt, according to the polls.

Brush 'em back.

So tight that "rocket scientist" Holt is spamming us with attack ads.

Totally incoherent and dishonest attack ads.

A year ago I would have said my Congressman, big government leanings notwithstanding, was above this sort of behavior. Apparently not.

It isn't going to help him in Princeton. We actually know there is no such thing as a "Hedge Fund Dealer" and that offshore funds are as common as SUVs in Princeton.

I did a GOTV for him in Middletown Saturday before last; I was very happy at the response we got.

We are also doing a GOTV event for him on the morning of election day, right in the middle of socialism-central, Princeton (coffee at our house, followed by rides to the polls). I have high hopes for election day, though I worry that Republicans are becoming over-confident as we get closer to the day itself.

Three cheers and Thanks to Tigerhawk.

I was curious about the Sipperelle offering, and this is most welcome.

I hope Powerline takes a look.

I was surprised recently, watching ESPN, seeing some group (of some interesting Jewish Affiliation - cannot remember the name), running an Ad which really rebuked HOLT harshly for a number of things - including running some vividly anti-Israeli Panel at some Leftist gathering. I wish I could remember the details, as it was a flash and came quickly prior to the game.

Seeing something like this, challenging Holt, was a stunning new development in terms of local NJ politics. A real sign the Democrats are in trouble - and I don't mean just in this election - meaning the facade has been so severely revealed, the image so damaged, they have hurt themselves tremendously with so many.

Things have 'changed'. In the 1990's, Hillary's kiss on Mrs. Arafat's cheek may be largely ignored by the MEDIA, but today the truth finds a way in the American Public domain.

Perhaps a credit due to great bloggers like Tigerhawk, Powerline, Hewitt, etc.

It is hopefully a move towards a more honest-constructive discourse someday. Or even some better Candidates and Policy in the future.

Holt was also one of the few members of Congress to decline to repudiate the "General Betray-Us" ad from moveon.org, as I recall.

NJ Dems run a close contest among themselves for the sleaziest, most mendacious political ad. Frankie Pallone, Rush Holt & Steve Ratman are really trying to outdo each other. Pallone's opponent wants to abolish Dept. of Education! Oh my...Rothman pats his own shoulder for writing legislation letting 26 y.o. stay on parents' insurance policy. LOL.

Holt's insipid attack mailers and ad's are having an impact. Monmouth just released a new poll showing Holt up 8, a wider lead than two weeks ago. Not good news, but also not over yet. Sipprelle still preserves a strong lead among independents and turnout will determine the winner.
