Three cheers for the blue, white, and red

Heh:

Sarkozy!

Unlike many American conservatives, I usually enjoy French interventionism. Oh, sure, occasionally it goes horribly awry, but the French can often do important or merely entertaining things that we cannot or will not do. You know, like sinking the Rainbow Warrior, which was totally harsh, obviously unlawful, and -- I'm not going to lie -- hilarious. Recently, the French have led the way in the killing of North African pirates, a contribution to world peace if there ever was one. There were many such examples during the Cold War. Yes, the French can be annoying when they seek to frustrate American objectives, but that same strong sense of national identity and underlying Gallic harshness leads them to do at least some of the world's dirty work. I am one American who appreciates that.

The French, here, are working on behalf of Obama. The Kenyan wants another Nobel Peace Prize but assumes his chances are lessened if he is in command of the Libyan cleansing, thus, pal Sarkozy.
Obama is very much a contender for this year's Nobel Peace Prize. If you look at what he accomplished to earn his first Peace Prize you must recognize that he accomplished even more in his second year.

I agree. On both the left and the right, Americans see the French opposing military action that doesn't benefit them, and mistake that for a principled objection to military action in general.

That is wrong. The French, in their foreign policy, have never been guilty of principle.

And the Rainbow Warrior incident was glorious. When the French are firing on all cylinders, they are like Charlie Sheen with nuclear weapons.

Always remember what they did in World War I. Never forget.

Surfed: They did a bunch of things in WWI. Which did you have in mind?

In my opinion the only thing the French can do well is to teach Gaddafi how to surrender. See my post on Obama and Gaddafi on my blog www.alittleleftofright.com

For starters, they lost one million men in the trenches during the four years of that war. During our own Revolutionary War, had Admiral De Grasse and the French fleet not stopped British resupply to Cornwallis at Yorktown from New York City, chances are you might be one of the Queens loyal subjects today.

"Always remember what they did in World War I."

When all seemed lost, they rode taxis to the front and saved Paris.

Such elan and esprit de corps. Vivre le France!

Yeah, and they were not smart enough to get in on Iraq. What a bunch of idiots.

No, they instead bet their money that they could use the UN to restrain the US, and that in any case it was an 'unwinnable war.'

Don't forget their weasely, 'we want more power and you won't give it to us' semi-pro-USSR antics during the Cold War, or how they fought tooth and nail to retain their empire and failed. I also seem to remember snooty scoldings about how 'Iraq is just like Algeria.' And it was, to some extent, except that... you know... we won.

Every so often, a burst of francophilia goes off at this blog. It's all well and good to remember the good and honorable things the French have done, but there's plenty of dishonorable and bad things to accompany.

While the French came through for the Americans in 1781, they left the Irish Rebellion high and dry in 1798. Ironically, Cornwallis was involved in both.

Shouldnt those planes have the UN and OBAMA logos on them instead of USA and OLD GLORY
