Dominique Strauss-Kahn: One degree of separation from Eliot Spitzer!

Perhaps Client #9, who now has a television program, can book Client #10 as his guest. That is, if Dominique Strauss-Kahn ever gets out of jail, which seems increasingly unlikely.

I have wondered about the reaction in France to DSK's arrest. This article does not reflect well on the French "elites," who apparently have circled the wagons around this subject, and this man, for years. And the Guardian (yes, you do not get many links there on TigerHawk) has a nice take on the different approaches of the American and French media.

Here is what I wonder: With all the women coming forward, it seems increasingly clear that DSK is just a bad guy. How does this not come through in his other behavior? Or is it now our practice to put thugs in charge of major international agencies? (Of course I mean real ones, not UN commissions and the like.)

Glad to see you weren't actually suggesting moral equivalence after that title. Engaging a prostitute (however hypocritically) is not assault/rape.

At first you might think that DSK was just another Pepe Le Pew, an overly amorous Mel Blanc-voiced cartoon skunk. But if true, the allegations are that it was a brutal rape. Apparently, there’s corroborating physical evidence. I won’t get graphic, but it is graphic.

The NYPD is treating DSK appropriately. He’s continuously shackled and frequently strip-searched, all done by the book I’m sure.

Maybe he should agree to serving a week or two in Rikers GenPop, and we can call it even.

Increasingly, it seems his "behaviour" was tolerated. The French don't like looking in the mirror; too bad.

Nice Guardian piece--thanks for the link.

We don't "put thugs in charge", but you have only to lok around the world to see that they are very good at forcing their way to the top of all kinds of organisations - and always have been.

In fact, the biggest problem in politics is how to keep these ruthless characters out of power.

I know Huffpo is usually in the crosshairs around here, but this article is too good not to link:

The degree of elitism and ignorance shown in the quotes from DSK's defenders is just amazing.

I'm happy to allow folks their own personal bag of contradictions, but isn't this socialist stretching the gum a bit far? He lived the high life, the best cars, best hotels, best food and drink, and anyone who was paying attention to him knew it.

Well ok. Fine.

But he was a leader of the Socialists. Now around here the hypocrisy of the left is common fare. But there it is, right there in plain sight. I thought I heard the left breath a huge sigh of relief when Arnold's love child story broke. The moral failure of Republicans is the granola of choice for the left.

For DSK, at the end of the day, a Master of the Universe.

Mindles, no moral equivalence implied or intended. DSK is the bigger dirt bag by some margin, although Client #9 is probably the bigger hypocrite.

As Hayek pointed out, the worst rise to the top under socialism. Not that the denizens of Washington are such a sterling bunch...
