Iran's war

The Islamic Republic is up to no good, again:

Iran's elite military unit, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, has transferred lethal new munitions to its allies in Iraq and Afghanistan in recent months, according to senior U.S. officials, in a bid to accelerate the U.S. withdrawals from these countries.

The Revolutionary Guard has smuggled rocket-assisted exploding projectiles to its militia allies in Iraq, weapons that have already resulted in the deaths of American troops, defense officials said. They said Iranians have also given long-range rockets to the Taliban in Afghanistan, increasing the insurgents' ability to hit U.S. and other coalition positions from a safer distance.

Casus belli, for sure. I tend to believe that it is not in our interests to attack Iran -- at least not right now -- but it is important to remember that if we did our war would be just and lawful.

Ok.
Cassus belli. But no more lost lives.
Next Tuesday send a note to the UN documenting the Persian crimes.
Next Wednesday drop (no more than $20 million worth of) bunker-bustin' nukes on the highest value targets within Iran.
(1) That's a reasonable investment on setting them back a while.
(2) It's not like the Persians could do ANYTHING WORSE than they're doing already, lies and bluster aside.
(3) Sends a signal that despite domestic politics, in the end when you screw with America you get screwed far worse.
Right?

Casus belli - A bit late. The Iranians have supported the ratbags in Iraq and Afghanistan since the beginning.

Comment 1 by Robert A is the best solution. We, Yanks, need to attempt to think like nitwits - though too many of us are also - and address problems through the eyes of our enemies.

Note: ALL the talking, all the UN resolutions, all the demonstrations at community colleges DIDN'T have ANY effect on the situation in Darfur. One Marine battalion with heavy helo lift and attack craft...in three weeks would have helped dramatically...then leave. No nation building. Just kill as many thugs as you and find. The provide advice, some medicines, some food, and weapons to defend themselves. Gone. If you send in UN "troops" from the AU...they rape the women as much as the Sudan government's supported thugs. Damn, are we stupid or what?

I agree with the sense of the thread. The fact that we have had to spend the last ten years defending the legitimacy, rather than the wisdom, of going to war is testament to the cluelessness of American and European progressives. Of course we have had just cause, and a dozen times over in most cases.* The question has always been the wisdom, and we have never been able to sufficiently focus on that part.

*To anyone who would claim that Just War criteria had not been met, I would counter that the only way to reach that conclusion is to assume from the outset that the UN is the only legitimate constituting authority. Which no sane person would say, but seems to be a pretty common idea on the left anyway.

Color me shocked. Shocked!

"Casus belli, for sure. I tend to believe that it is not in our interests to attack Iran -- at least not right now -- but it is important to remember that if we did our war would be just and lawful."

Not that it will matter: the same nuttering nabobs will whine as whined about our invasion of Iraq after a decade of their ceasefire violations.

I've quoted you and linked to you here: http://consul-at-arms2.blogspot.com/2011/07/re-irans-war.html
