A short note on the GOP field

Professor Bainbridge almost perfectly captures my own perhaps ill-informed opinion of the GOP field, including a new reason to have some small hope for Rick Perry.

Commenters at Maggie's Farm (a right leaning blog)seem to think Perry is an echo of Bill Clinton when it comes to the fair sex.

They think a bimbo eruption will occur sooner or later.

I thought he was supposed to be gay?

Hey, there's a novel line of attack. He's a gay womanizer!

He is far from my ideal choice and I don't consider myself a Perry Supporter for POTUS.

If he were on a primary ballot vs. Romney or Huntsman I would have to go Perry.

It's still "best of a bad situation". Sure, he clucks like a chicken and acts like a chicken, but we need the eggs.

Can't get enough, can we? I just learned that Intrade is running book.

They have Obama winning re-election at 51%, which I think is way high. I'm at 25%, as I'm looking ahead. Obama faces a tough electoral map. I also think think that the economy will be worse as we move into 2012. There's other shoes that may drop.

Intrades's odds for the Republican nomination:
Perry 35%
Romney 30%
Huntsman 8%
Palin 7%
Bachmann 5%
Pataki 4.5%
Ron Paul 3.2%
Christie 2%
Giuliani 2%

I'd say:
Perry 38%
Romney 29%
Palin 18%
Field 15%

Palin will be "impactful" as a candidate, even if she doesn't win.

They have Rubio to be VP at 31%. Sounds about right.

Your democracy is a failure. In monarchies, sons are groomed for leadership and most, thru nature and nurture, are leaders. Democracies can not do that. (q.v. Erik von Kuenhelt-Leddihn, Liberty or Equality)

I find it hard to believe that Perry will run on a platform of doing something about tort reform. It seems to me that would violate his allegiance to the Tenth Amendment.

I don't know that much about Perry except that Jeb Bush and Rove aren't nuts about him. If the establishment Republicans don't want him, then that makes me like him a little. Romney and Huntsman are Democrats or even liberals. I would have more respect for them (maybe) if they just called themselves Democrats. I really want Palin to run though. As O continues to destroy our country, I would like to think that voters would give her a chance.

It is all quite interesting.

Mainly however, I see the revealing loss of credibility from many who are stuck on fashion from Our own side.

It is as if they learned nothing from the image/identity weakness provided in the last mid-terms.

Both Romney and Perry are sound, proven, stable, articulate, serious CEO's from outside the Beltway. One from the Public Sector from the fine Conservative State of Texas, the other from largely the Free Market - a Private Sector success who has a great a ability to turn around failure.

We are well served by both, yet the fashion game is already distracting from the big priority of 2012, desperately seeking the ideal image. They are busy vilifying Romney in the name of Perry and others. It isn't wise, hardly attractive, and far from fair, reasoned, or conservative. Making Romney the "enemy" is a huge mistake, one which we will again regret.

They just cannot help themselves, even the mighty GP has offered nonsensical exaggerations about Romney's expression on "climate change" - which is completely consistent. These are the same folks who remained silent with the Maverick Ticket's disastrous push for Cap and Trade taxation, or even Mrs. Palin's "Climate Panel" bureaucracy building in Alaska. Romney is a huge improvement over the 2008 offering - and if one cannot grasp or admit this, their credibility is lost.

But the real problem remains, the self destructive addiction to the fashion. Often pushed by the vocal, who are lost in emotive reactionary nonsense. The same who foolishly equated the two parties, calling Boehner the same as Pelosi. These are well intentioned, frustrated, voices who are always sending us awry. Same folks who told us O'Donnell would win in Delaware. Same who vilified Murkowski in a childish manner, while romanticizing a complete unknown in Miller. Predictably the "image" candidate was revealed to be a contradiction, very human, and we only pushed Murkowski away in the process with the less than fair - far to ugly effort.

None of this is conservative. Romney for example is hated by Democrats because he is a Free Market success, a product of Our powerful Capitalist system. To treat him as the enemy is utterly foolish.

But then again, we are doomed probably to enable the Democratic Party again - with the same fashion bent on undermining Our interests.

We best do better than this...
